Music Director & Accompanist with Vocal Coaching Responsibilities Start Date:

An award-winning Musical Theatre Program at a performing arts high school is seeking a highly skilled and collaborative Music Director & Accompanist to join our faculty beginning in September 2026.
This position is ideal for an accomplished pianist, music director, and educator who is passionate about developing young musical theatre performers in a rigorous pre-professional training environment. The successful candidate will play a central role in both the year-round music program and the annual spring musical production.
Position Schedule
This is a part-time position with a flexible schedule, typically requiring two days per week selected from Tuesday through Thursday.
Regular hours are generally 8:30 a.m.–3:00 p.m., with additional hours from 3:00–5:00 p.m. during periods when after-school rehearsals are in session.
Responsibilities may take place during the school day and include choir rehearsals, music rehearsals, accompaniment, vocal coaching, and production preparation. A later daily start time may be negotiated for the right candidate.
Candidates must be available for all required rehearsals, performances, and production activities during tech week and performance week, which may require attendance on additional days and evenings.
Responsibilities
Serve as accompanist for the Musical Theatre Program choir throughout the academic year. Accompany rehearsals, concerts, showcases, auditions, and other program performances. Teach and rehearse choral repertoire with a choir of approximately 35–40 students while supporting students in developing musicianship, ensemble singing, harmony, style, interpretation, and performance skills.
Serve as Music Director for the annual spring musical production. Teach and rehearse all vocal music, harmonies, and ensemble numbers. Collaborate closely with the director, choreographer, and production team to support the artistic vision of the production. Lead music rehearsals and coordinate all musical aspects of the show. Assist in identifying and hiring professional pit musicians as needed. Conduct and lead pit orchestra rehearsals and performances.
Coordinate and oversee the sitzprobe rehearsal to ensure successful integration of cast and orchestra. Attend production meetings, rehearsals, technical rehearsals, and performances.
Provide individual and small-group vocal coaching for lead and featured performers as needed, supporting students in learning and refining musical theatre repertoire and audition material. Collaborate with faculty and staff to support the overall musical development of students and contribute to the continued excellence of the Musical Theatre Program.
Qualifications
Advanced piano accompanying skills are required. Candidates should possess a strong background in musical theatre repertoire and vocal music instruction, along with experience serving as a music director, accompanist, choral director, or in a similar role. The ability to teach and motivate high school-aged performers is essential. Experience conducting pit orchestras and/or instrumental ensembles is preferred. Successful candidates will demonstrate excellent communication, organizational, and collaborative skills, as well as a passion for musical theatre education and mentoring young artists.

Requirement
Applicants must possess a New Jersey Substitute Teaching Certificate or be willing to obtain one prior to employment.
