YOUR ROLE IN THE COMMUNITY
Civic is looking for a talented, culturally curious, and highly craft-driven Designer / Art Director to support creative development and execution for one of our key entertainment clients.
This role is ideal for someone with strong foundational design skills, agency experience, and a passion for entertainment, storytelling, culture, and experiential work. You should be equally excited to bring a big idea to life visually, design a pitch deck with precision, explore a visual world for a new campaign, and release polished files for production across print, digital, social, and physical experiences.
The right candidate is a hands-on designer with excellent taste, strong technical skills, and the ability to move quickly without sacrificing detail. You know how to take direction, build on feedback, and bring solutions to the table. You are curious, resourceful, and proactive, with the ability to research the business problem, understand the audience, and explain the thinking behind your creative choices.
You will work closely with Creative Directors, Associate Creative Directors, strategists, producers, account leads, and other creative partners to concept, design, and execute work across experiential activations, brand campaigns, presentations, environmental graphics, digital and social assets, and client-facing materials.
This is a fast-paced, highly collaborative role for someone who understands agency life, knows when to listen, when to contribute, and how to help make great work stronger.
CORE RESPONSIBILITIES
- Concept and design creative work across experiential, digital, social, print, presentation, and brand campaign materials.
- Translate creative direction into polished visual systems, layouts, mockups, decks, and production-ready assets.
- Develop visual worlds for entertainment and storytelling-led campaigns across titles, genres, fandoms and cultural moments.
- Apply strong design fundamentals across typography, composition, color, hierarchy, image-making, layout, and brand systems.
- Create client-ready presentations that are visually elevated, strategically clear, and well organized.
- Prepare clean, accurate files for print, digital, social, and experiential production.
- Collaborate closely with Creative Directors, ACDs, writers, strategists, account leads, producers, and external partners to develop and refine creative work.
- Partner with production and fabrication teams to ensure ideas are executable, scalable, and produced at a high standard.
- Contribute to brainstorms with ideas, visual references, cultural insights, and relevant design inspiration.
- Research trends across entertainment, design, culture, experiential, social, and emerging media to help inform the work. Dive deep into our clients’ IP (and its fan networks) to develop exciting new ways of engaging consumers and target audiences thoughtfully and with authenticity.
- Clearly articulate creative rationale, visual decisions, and process.
- Manage multiple projects and deadlines in a fast-moving agency environment.
- Take feedback constructively and revise work quickly, thoughtfully, and accurately.
- Stay engaged, visible, and communicative with internal teams and project stakeholders.
ROLE QUALIFICATIONS
- 3-5+ years of design or art direction experience in an agency environment, ideally within experiential, entertainment, branding, or integrated marketing.
- Strong portfolio demonstrating design fundamentals, visual thinking, craft, taste, and attention to detail.
- Fluency in typography, color, composition, hierarchy, image selection, branding, and layout.
- Advanced Adobe Creative Suite skills, especially InDesign, Illustrator and Photoshop, with strong Google Suite skills across Slides, Docs and Sheets.
- Experience designing pitch decks, client presentations, campaign materials, and production-ready files across print, digital, and environmental formats.
- Ability to work quickly, accurately, and calmly in a fast-paced environment with shifting priorities.
- Strong communication skills, including the ability to explain creative decisions and respond thoughtfully to feedback.
- Curious and culturally engaged, with a strong interest in entertainment, storytelling, fandoms, design trends, and emerging creative formats.
- Proactive, resourceful, and collaborative, with the ability to take direction, ask smart questions, and move work forward without every step being prescribed.
- Comfort working closely with creative, account, strategy, and production teams.
- Experience with AI tools, motion, video, 3D, Figma, Keynote, After Effects or Premiere is a plus.
- Passion for audio, entertainment, books, podcasts, genre storytelling, fandom or live experiences is a strong plus.
THE PERSON WE’RE LOOKING FOR
You are a designer with taste, rigor, and curiosity. You care about the idea, but you also care deeply about the craft. You understand that details matter: alignment, scale, file naming, image resolution, typography, pacing, polish, and presentation.
You are confident, but coachable. You can speak up with a point of view, but you also know how to listen, read the room, and support the larger creative direction. You are excited to contribute ideas, but you understand that strong ideas come from research, context, strategy, and collaboration.
You bring energy to the work, pride to the execution, and a genuine interest in making culture facing creative that people want to talk about.
