Role Description This is a full-time, on-site Assistant Brewer role based in Walthamstow. The Assistant Brewer will support all aspects of the brewing process, including wort production, fermentation monitoring, transfers, dry hopping, and cellaring. Day-to-day tasks include cleaning and sanitising vessels and equipment, assisting with packaging (keg, cask, bottle, and can), and maintaining high standards of hygiene and safety in the brewhouse. The role also involves handling raw materials, recording production data accurately, performing basic quality checks, and helping to manage stock and inventory. The Assistant Brewer will work closely with the head brewer and wider team to ensure beers meet ELBC’s standards for quality and consistency, and may occasionally support events, tastings, or brewery tours.

Qualifications

  • Practical brewing skills, including basic understanding of the brewing process, fermentation, and cellaring, with a strong interest in learning and developing professionally.
  • Experience with cleaning, sanitation, and safe handling of chemicals and equipment in a production or brewery environment.
  • Good physical fitness and the ability to lift and move kegs, bags of malt, and other brewery materials safely.
  • Strong attention to detail and record-keeping skills for logging brew data, inventory, and quality checks.
  • Effective communication and teamwork skills, with a collaborative approach in a small, hands-on brewery setting.
  • Willingness to work flexible hours when needed, including occasional evenings or weekends for production needs or events.
  • Prior experience in a brewery, beverage production, or food manufacturing environment is beneficial but not essential.
  • Relevant brewing or food safety training (e.g., IBD qualifications, brewing courses, or health and safety certifications) is an advantage.
  • Genuine enthusiasm for beer (including Cask) – independent breweries, and the East London beer scene.
