What you will do
This role demands a Strategic Partner and Quality Guardian who drives the visual and brand vision for an entire Vertical. Beyond shaping the platform's architectural integrity, you bridge the gap between complex business goals and user experience. As a dedicated Design Leader, you take full ownership of the design outcome while building, mentoring, and scaling a high-performing team of Lead and Senior designers.
Strategic Direction & Quality Governance
- Craftsmanship Excellence: Set and uphold the most rigorous aesthetic standards for the entire team. Control the output quality to an exceptional level of finish, demonstrating absolute mastery of Typography, Color Theory, Visual Hierarchy, and Layout.
- Art Direction & Scalability: Take responsibility for scaling the Art Direction across large-scale campaigns and products. Effectively resolve edge cases while maintaining the core DNA of the design.
- Creative Strategy & Storytelling: Apply a deep understanding of storytelling to the team's designs. Proactively propose creative ideas, visualize directions, and directly guide the team in executing them to solve complex requirements.
- Research-driven Design: Independently conduct basic research (e.g., user research) to evaluate product quality. Identify missing data to clarify objectives and inform the approach.
- Professional Anchor: Engage in complex projects with unclear objectives to provide sharp professional direction. Debate and negotiate with Product Owners (PO) and UX Designers to protect the integrity of the Art Direction against stringent product requirements.
DesignOps & Cross-Functional Partnership
- Workflow Optimization: Build suitable checklists and frameworks to help the team efficiently execute every step of the design process. Continuously initiate ideas to improve internal workflows.
- Asset Digitization & Infrastructure: Lead the digitization of all design assets. Plan, manage, and optimize a centralized Master Assets system, ensuring seamless search, retrieval, and operation for large-scale production. Systematize best practices, build tools, and create guidelines to share across the team.
- Strategic Product Partner: Proactively research market and competitor design trends to persuade stakeholders. Deeply understand the capabilities and limitations of cross-functional teams (Technical, Product, UXR) to collaborate effectively and find balanced solutions.
- Design Rituals: Establish standard processes and criteria for the team in key activities such as presentations and design reviews.
Design Leadership
- Team Culture & Empowerment: Cultivate a highly collaborative and inspiring team culture. Foster a safe environment for creative exploration, where continuous learning, constructive critique, and outcome-oriented design are valued over ego.
- Mentorship & Talent Development: Act as a dedicated mentor to Lead and Senior designers. Evaluate their capabilities, identify skill gaps, and provide actionable coaching to elevate both their technical craft and strategic thinking.
- Design Advocacy: Champion the value of Graphic Design and Art Direction across the organization. Elevate the team's profile by encouraging knowledge sharing, organizing internal workshops, and setting a benchmark for creative excellence.
What you will need
- Experience: Minimum 5-7+ years of experience in Graphic Design / Art Direction, with at least 2-3 years in a leadership role for high-scale consumer apps.
- Portfolio: A portfolio that clearly demonstrates strategic brand thinking, storytelling capabilities, and successful large-scale campaigns.
- Master of Craft: Exquisite level of design execution. Possess deep expertise and masterful application of Typography, Color Theory, Layout, and Visual Composition to personally create high-quality designs that serve as Benchmarks for the team.
- Art Direction Mastery: Proven ability to scale Art Direction for large-scale projects, exceptionally handling edge cases while maintaining core design integrity. Strong foundation in Storytelling.
- DesignOps Expertise: Ability to systematize best practices. Practical experience in asset digitization, building processes, checklists, frameworks, and optimizing Master Assets systems to serve large-scale production.
- Research & Data: Ability to collect and analyze market data and conduct basic research to consolidate and persuade design directions.
- Strategic Partnership & Influence: Excellent communication and negotiation skills with POs, UX Designers, and Technical teams to find balanced solutions and defend art direction.
