Brand Engineer Jobs in London, England, United Kingdom at Defyner

Title: Brand Engineer

Company: Defyner

Location: London, England, United Kingdom

About Defyner

Marketing is being rebuilt.

For decades, great teams have been constrained by the coordination tax across tools, agencies, markets, and formats. AI changes the production capacity of a marketing organisation, but without governance it mostly creates extra activity, vendor dependency, and risk.

Defyner exists to fix that. We're the brand engineering company that helps the world's most ambitious brands design, develop and deploy multi-agent workflows that transform their marketing operating model into an AI-ready OS. The systems run inside the client's own infrastructure, so strategy turns into repeatable, measurable execution at software speed and scale.

Our edge is the brand harness: the system that wraps generic AI models and agents in codified workflows, deterministic checks where possible, human approval gates, evaluation harnesses, observability, and end-to-end auditability. When everyone has the same tools, the system is the advantage, and it lets enterprises scale speed without increasing brand risk.

A new craft makes this possible: Brand Engineering, the discipline that translates brand and business logic into machine-usable guidance and execution.

Why this role now

We’re excited by our strong early momentum with leading marketers across the US, UK and EU.

To meet that demand, and to accelerate what Defyner can ship, we’ve raised a strong angel round and are now growing our brand engineering function to deliver for enterprise brands.

That means moving from early one-off deployments to a repeatable platform layer we can roll out across multiple brands: secure, observable, and reliable by default.

That's why this role is critical. This is an early, 0→1 role in our brand engineering function, at the heart of that shift. You'll translate real brand and creative constraints into shippable, brand-safe agentic workflows, and help turn one-off deployments into a repeatable delivery playbook.

You'll step into a live delivery pipeline spanning enterprise brands across the US, UK, and EU, with genuine engagements and real outcomes from day one.

What you’ll own

  • End-to-end delivery of client engagements: discovery → architecture → build plan → execution → go-live → iteration.
  • Client technical + marketing relationships: collaborate with brand/creative, marketing ops, and (when needed) security/IT stakeholders.
  • Brand/creative translation: turning positioning, voice, claims constraints, and channel requirements into concrete workflow requirements, including building and refining Brand Code, the machine-readable foundation layer that spans Foundation, Audience, Journey, Channel, and Expression.
  • Brand-safe workflow patterns: approval gates, human review steps, and deterministic checks where possible.
  • Evaluation and QA: tests and scorecards that catch brand drift, hallucinated claims, compliance risks, and tonal mismatch.
  • Delivery playbooks: repeatable templates and reference implementations that compound across clients.

What you’ll do (examples)

  • Run brand and workflow discovery: map stakeholders, inputs, outputs, approvals, constraints, and success metrics.
  • Design and ship brand-safe workflows (brief → draft → critique → revision → approval) with measurable quality checks.
  • Build/operate eval suites for key workflows (messaging, long-form, social, lifecycle/email, sales enablement) and run regressions as models/prompts change.
  • Debug real production failure modes (edge cases, inconsistent inputs, stakeholder feedback loops) and iterate systems quickly.
  • Partner on integrations where brand rules need enforcement (approved claims, asset libraries, disclaimers, compliance rules).

Collaboration

  • Work closely with the founders on client strategy, solution design, and what “great” looks like for brand-safe outcomes.
  • Partner daily with our Platform Engineer function to ensure implementations are scalable, observable, and testable (evals, tracing, versioning, release discipline).
  • Collaborate with client stakeholders (brand/creative, marketing ops, legal/compliance, and sometimes IT/security) to ship reliably and build trust.

What we’re looking for

  • Strong technical fluency and builder mindset; you’ve shipped real systems (code, workflows, or complex automations), not only documents.
  • Multi-agent systems experience is required: you’ve built tool-using agentic applications and you know how to debug them (traces, evals, failure modes, prompt/version changes).
  • Deep instinct for brand: you can translate positioning, voice, and business context into actionable constraints and decisions.
  • Comfort with ambiguity and high ownership (0→1, early-stage team cadence).
  • Strong writing and taste: you can produce (and evaluate) excellent work.

Strong signals (any combination)

  • Background spanning data science, applied ML, computational linguistics, creative technologist, AI product engineer, or highly technical strategist.
  • Experience building evaluation harnesses / QA systems (LLM or otherwise), including regressions that catch brand drift or tonal inconsistency.
  • Built structured knowledge representations such as taxonomies, ontologies, and schemas that feed generative or agentic systems (directly relevant to how we build Brand Code).
  • Worked with brand, legal, or compliance teams in regulated or complex enterprise environments where outputs carry real risk.
  • Experience working with Marketing/Brand/Comms teams at high standards, with a genuine instinct for what "on-brand" means in practice.

Success looks like (first 90 days)

  • A repeatable “brand onboarding” process (inputs → codified guidance → validation → v1 brand layer).
  • At least one live workflow that uses the brand layer and is measurably more brand-consistent than baseline.
  • A small but meaningful eval suite (brand safety and quality) running in CI or as a release gate for core workflows.

Compensation and equity

  • Compensation: £90–130k depending on seniority, location, and scope, plus performance upside. Final package agreed at offer.
  • Equity: 0.75–1.5% pre-Series A, on a standard 4-year vest with 1-year cliff, with meaningful ownership to reflect real impact.

Benefits

  • Remote-friendly (UK/Europe/US) with flexibility around hours and location.
  • High-trust environment with significant autonomy and direct founder access.
  • Clients own the systems we build: 100% client owned, with IP transfer and deployment on their own infrastructure. Our moat is our methodology, our expertise, and the platform layer, so you'll ship real systems that matter.
  • A steep, valuable learning curve: production agent systems, evaluation and observability, and real brand and compliance constraints.

Hiring process

  • Intro call (fit + motivation)
  • Practical deep dive (brand system design + evaluation approach)
  • Short exercise or case discussion (design an end-to-end brand-safe workflow)
  • Final conversation with founders + references

Logistics

  • Location: UK, Europe, or US (remote-friendly; overlap with UK/EU time zones preferred).
  • Seniority: Mid to senior IC joining early in the brand engineering function, with potential to grow into a lead role.
  • Start: Targeting July/August 2026.
