Collections Intern – Museum of the Coastal Bend

Position:
Temporary full‑time Collections Intern, Summer 2026, 58 days (8 hours, 5 days a week). Reports to the Exhibits and Collections Manager.

Job Summary

Responsible for cataloging, inventorying, and accessioning the museum’s collections, along with related administrative tasks.

Key Responsibilities

  • Catalog, inventory, and accession artifacts: photograph artifacts, data entry into CMS Past Perfect, match artifacts with accession records, notify and assist the Manager on discrepancies, create condition reports when needed.
  • Participate in Collections Committee meetings and Advisory Board meetings.

Qualifications

  • Current graduate student pursuing a Master’s in Museum Studies, Public History, History, Archaeology, or related field.
  • Knowledge of museum best practices for artifact handling.
  • Proficient computer skills.
  • Strong attention to detail, written and verbal communication skills.
  • Self‑directed, able to work without supervision, energetic and eager to tackle projects.
  • Excellent critical thinking/problem‑solving skills.
  • Experience with Past Perfect CMS preferred but not required.

Physical and Medical Requirements

Requires manual handling: frequent use of hands and fingers, manual controls and keypads. Must sit, stand, and walk; lift and/or move up to 25 pounds. Visual abilities: close vision, some color vision, and ability to adjust focus between documents and computer screen. Requires hearing of light to moderate sound. Noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.
