The Opportunity

Do you have experience with the production of print media? Do you enjoy working with a wide variety of stakeholders including staff, leadership, and volunteers?

Major Responsibilities

  • The Anglican monthly newspaper
    • Write, edit and research articles
    • Integrate content across various digital platforms to increase reach.
    • Source freelancers, stories and pictures
    • Responsible for the layout of ad placements.
    • Coordinate distribution. Prepare and post web-ready assets.

  • Identify, research, write and edit articles for the Diocesan website.
  • Provide recommendations for the development of the editorial strategy for all Diocesan media, print and digital.
  • Assist departments with video production and distribution.
  • Edit and distribute the bi-weekly e-newsletter (Bulletin Board).
  • Monitor press/media coverage using Google Alerts and report to the Director of Communications for possible action.
  • Make recommendations for the development and implementation of the Diocesan social media strategy and policy.
  • Recommend communication strategies that reflect and support intercultural, anti-racist, and trauma informed ministry practices across the Diocese.
  • Ensure content is regularly posted on the Diocesan social media channels, including Facebook, Twitter, Instagram and You Tube.
  • Use social media to engage with people both inside and outside the Anglican Church.
  • Provide advice, training and education on social media to Diocesan Centre staff, clergy and parishes.
  • Support the Director of Communications in administering the Diocesan Bishop’s social media presence.
  • Maintain the Diocesan website to ensure content is relevant and up-to-date and technical issues are addressed promptly. (Content management system is Word Press.)
  • Monitor website traffic and Diocesan social media channels to identify trends and measure success using Google Analytics.
  • Liaise with developers to resolve technical issues.
  • Develop content for the website in consultation with the Director of Communications.
  • Provide training and support to staff on website maintenance and the content creation for their departments.
  • Provide communications, website and social media advice and support to various departments and committees of the Diocese and parishes, as requested by the Director of Communications.
  • Identify and develop tools to improve internal communications, both within the Diocesan Centre and with clergy and parishes.
  • Participate in communication working groups such as the Parish Website Pilot Project and social media coaching.

Values, Skills and Experience

  • Minimum of 3 years’ experience writing and editing print or digital publications
  • Equivalent lived experience in community, cultural, or grassroots ministry.
  • Bachelor’s degree or diploma in English, journalism, marketing, communications or related discipline.
  • Understanding communications strategy and planning, especially online strategy.
  • Strong writing, editing and research skills are necessary.
  • Ability to teach/coach others, especially on social media and website management and content creation.
  • Excellent collaborative skills, communication skills and interpersonal skills.
  • Demonstrates a strong level of accountability, innovation, commitment to best practices, adaptability and flexibility, and the ability to build relationships.
  • Knowledge of or a willingness to become familiar with the structure, functions and values of the Anglican Church of Canada. An understanding of Anglican culture is an asset.
  • Ability to work with multiple stakeholders.
  • Excellent organizational skills and detail oriented.
  • Ability to work independently, to meet deadlines and handle multiple tasks, often under tight deadlines.
  • Excellent listening skills.
  • Basic photography skills is an asset.
