A nationally recognized insurance leader with millions of members, a deeply mission-driven culture, and the financial backing to invest boldly in what comes next is hiring for its first Director of AI Enablement. They've already built their enterprise AI strategy and have active projects underway now they're hiring the leader who will make that strategy real for every business unit across the organization.
As Director of AI Enablement, you will function as an internal consultancy embedded inside a major insurance enterprise. This is a ground-floor opportunity to build a function that doesn't exist yet, scale it over the next 2 to 3 years, and shape how an entire organization redesigns its workflows, roles, and ways of working in an AI-powered world.
This is a player-coach role you'll set the vision and methodology while staying close to the work, facilitating critical engagements, and designing solutions hands-on until your team is in place.
Responsibilities:
- Define and evolve the AI enablement operating model, including standards, templates, design principles, and reusable artifacts
- Establish methods and quality standards for AI-enabled workflow redesign, human-AI interaction, service blueprinting, and operating model design
- Drive a strong point of view on future ways of working anticipating how AI will reshape roles, workflows, decisioning, controls, and team structures
- Partner with business units to identify high-value workflow opportunities and prioritize where redesign creates measurable impact
- Lead current-state assessment and future-state design mapping workflows, services, decision points, roles, and handoffs across the end-to-end system
- Define how humans and AI should work together, including where AI should automate, augment, or escalate to human judgment
- Set direction for human-in-the-loop patterns intervention triggers, confidence thresholds, review paths, exception handling, override mechanisms, and feedback loops
- Partner with technical, data, product, and governance teams to shape prototypes, pilots, and scalable production solutions
- Define the CoP charter, operating model, and cadence ensuring it drives outcomes, not just attendance
- Facilitate cross-business-unit collaboration to reduce duplication, share tool and vendor learnings, and align on common workflows and integration patterns
- Create a structured learning loop to capture insights from pilots, convert them into repeatable patterns, and scale them across teams
- Establish and own enterprise reporting on AI value, workflow impact, adoption, and enablement effectiveness
- Publish a reporting cadence that informs portfolio prioritization and investment decisions
- Define meaningful success measures for workflow redesign, human-AI collaboration, and organizational adoption
- Lead, coach, and develop talent across systems design, facilitation, workflow transformation, and CoP development
- Set the quality bar for design craft workflow architecture, blueprinting, human-AI interaction design, executive storytelling, and consultative partnership
- Foster a culture of experimentation, practical delivery, and continuous learning
Qualifications:
- 10+ years of experience building systems, workflows, and large-scale digital transformations with measurable impact
- 5+ years of leadership experience managing direct reports or steering large-scale, high-stakes initiatives
- Consulting or professional services background strongly preferred you know how to act as a strategic advisor, earn trust quickly, and diagnose what a business unit actually needs
- Bachelor's degree or equivalent practical experience in a related field
- Expert ability to map how a business operates today and design a more efficient future state from scratch
- Proven track record building and refining complex operating models, service blueprints, and workflow maps
- You don't just "design" you produce clear, actionable artifacts that teams can actually follow
- Portfolio of workflow design work required
- Deep understanding of how people and AI work together — you know how to design for human oversight, trust, and error handling
- Familiar with the logic of AI systems — when a human should intervene, how to handle low-confidence outputs, and how to make AI decisions explainable
- You understand what AI can and cannot realistically do, guiding teams toward solutions that are actually buildable
- Tool-agnostic mindset comfortable across ChatGPT, Claude, Microsoft Copilot, and enterprise platforms like Palantir, Snowflake, and DataRobot
- Expert facilitator especially with executives moving people past brainstorming and toward hard decisions and commitments
- Strong visual storyteller can turn complex data into clear narratives that help senior leaders make informed choices
- Skilled at influencing without authority across technical, data, legal, and business teams
- Passionate about coaching and setting high standards for team craft
