Title: Event Designer
Company: SUBVRT
Location: Greater Sydney Area
About Us
SUBVRT Experience Studio is a Sydney-based creative agency specialising in live events, experience design, spatial projects, and large-scale production. We build experiences for some of Australia's most ambitious brands and cultural institutions, the kind of work that takes real creative thinking to get right and real production skill to bring to life.
If you want to work on projects that get built, in a team that takes the craft seriously, keep reading.
The Opportunity
We are looking for a Designer to join our Creative Department. You have 3 to 4 years of experience, strong fundamentals across 2D and 3D formats, and a genuine appetite for experiential and spatial design.
This is a role for someone who is past the very beginning of their career but has a lot of their best work still ahead of them. You will work directly under the Creative Director, contributing to projects across concept, development, and delivery. You are expected to bring real creative thinking and craft to everything you touch, not just execute what you are handed.
The creative pathway from this role is real. We are building a department for the long term and we want the right person to grow with it.
What You Will Do
- Produce design work across experiential, spatial, and graphic formats: concept visuals, mood boards, spatial layouts, renders, event collateral, and more
- Execute briefs set by the Creative Director with accuracy, craft, and your own creative initiative
- Contribute to concept ideation and creative reviews, bringing ideas and references that add genuine value to the development process
- Support project delivery across defined design workstreams, managing your own output and delivering to timelines
- Attend site visits and production walkthroughs where your design work needs on-the-ground presence
- Contribute to SUBVRT's own marketing materials, case studies, and brand assets
- Keep files organised, asset libraries maintained, and work in a way the rest of the team can rely on
What You Bring
Experience and Portfolio
- 3 to 4 years of experience in a design role with a focus on experiential, spatial, events, or a closely related creative field
- A portfolio showing strong design fundamentals across 2D and 3D formats, with a developing creative point of view and evidence of real craft
- Some agency or studio experience working on client briefs, with an understanding of how design fits into a broader project
- Exposure to spatial or environmental design through any context: experiential, interior, architectural, set design, or similar
Technical Skills
- Solid proficiency in Adobe Creative Suite: Photoshop, Illustrator, InDesign
- Working knowledge of SketchUp and Vectorworks as primary CAD and spatial design tools, with a clear interest in developing this capability further
- Ability to produce concept visuals and design presentations that communicate ideas clearly
- V-Ray or Lumion rendering experience is a plus
Who You Are
- Creatively curious with a genuine interest in experiential design, live events, and the intersection of design and production
- Craft-driven and detail-oriented, someone who cares about the quality of what goes out and it shows in your work
- Receptive to feedback and actively motivated to grow, with ambition backed by a willingness to put the work in
- Calm, adaptable, and reliable under pressure, the kind of person a team can count on
- Collaborative by instinct, with the maturity to take direction well and contribute positively to a high-performing creative environment
What We Offer
- Genuine creative variety across brand activations, live events, festivals, spatial projects, and internal work, not just one type of brief
- Direct exposure to experienced creative leadership and a clear development pathway toward a senior role
- A collaborative, fast-paced environment where quality is expected and good work is noticed
- The chance to work on projects that actually get built, with a team that cares about doing them well
- Competitive salary commensurate with experience
