General Manager Jobs in Greater Melbourne Area at Toys “R” Us ANZ Limited
Title: General Manager
Company: Toys “R” Us ANZ Limited
Location: Greater Melbourne Area
The Opportunity
Some opportunities ask you to manage a business. This one asks you to build the future of one.
Toys "R" Us is one of the most recognisable retail brands in the world. For generations, it's been where childhood dreams began. Now, in Australia, we're writing the next chapter.
Backed by Directed, a market-leading Australian business with more than two decades of success across consumer technology, gaming, toys, lifestyle, and eCommerce; we're investing in growth, innovation, and a bold vision for what modern retail can be.
We're looking for an exceptional General Manager to lead the Toys “R” Us (TRU) Group which includes Toys "R" Us, Babies "R" Us, Hobby Warehouse, and Riot Art & Craft.
This is more than a leadership role.
It's an opportunity to take the reins of a multi-brand eCommerce business, shape its strategy, inspire its people, accelerate growth, and create experiences that delight millions of Australian families.
You'll have the freedom to think big, move fast, challenge convention, and leave your mark on some of the most loved brands in retail.
If you're energised by growth, excited by transformation, and motivated by building something remarkable, we'd love to meet you.
What You'll Be Responsible For
As General Manager, you'll be the driving force behind the TRU Group's performance, culture, and future direction.
You'll lead a high-performing team across digital, marketing, operations, merchandising, customer experience, and commercial functions, bringing everyone together behind a shared vision for growth.
Your mission is simple: Build the most loved online destination for families, hobbyists, creators, and gift-givers in Australia.
To get there, you will:
- Shape and execute the growth strategy across all brands
- Drive commercial performance, profitability, and market share
- Champion innovation across eCommerce, technology, and customer experience
- Build a culture where talented people thrive and do their best work
- Strengthen partnerships with suppliers, brands, and key stakeholders
- Identify new opportunities before the market does
- Create the operational excellence required to scale sustainably
This is a role for someone who loves building momentum, solving complex challenges, and turning ambitious ideas into measurable results.
What You'll Bring
We're looking for someone who walks into a room, any room, and naturally draws people in. You think in outcomes, not tasks. You build culture by how you show up, not by what you put in a policy doc. You've done this before.
You've run a business at scale, you know what it takes to grow it, fix it, and make it sing. You understand eCommerce not as a buzzword, but as a living, breathing commercial engine that never sleeps.
As our General Manager, you will have:
- A proven track record leading a business with $100M+ revenue and growing it
- Deep eCommerce fluency: SEO, paid media, marketplace dynamics, conversion – the works!
- A sixth sense for operations: supply chain, logistics, systems, and the processes that underpin profit
- Genuine people leadership: not just headcount management, but real influence that makes teams want to overachieve
- Commercial instincts sharp enough to spot an opportunity before the numbers tell you it's there
- Stakeholder gravitas: you're equally at home presenting to a CEO or problem-solving with a team member
- Experience across sales, buying, operations, marketing, finance, technology, and customer success
How We'll Know You're Winning
- Revenue: Annual budgets hit and exceeded
- Online Growth: YoY improvement in digital performance and market share
- Customer Success: High satisfaction scores and repeat purchase rates
- Team Culture: Retention, engagement, and a team that genuinely thrives
- Partnerships: Supplier and vendor relationships that deliver mutual wins
What You're Walking Into
A brand with global recognition and serious momentum. A business backed by Directed’s infrastructure, capability, and ambition. A team that's energised by what's being built. And a leadership group that wants a GM who leads, not one who waits to be told.
This is a high-trust, high-autonomy role. You'll have the backing of the Executive Director and CEO, the resources of a multi-brand group, and the freedom to shape how Toys "R" Us wins in Australia's evolving online retail landscape.
If all the above describes you and what you’ve achieved, we’d love to see your application.
