Key Tasks
- Host an upbeat, in‑depth and entertaining 3‑hour show every weekday.
- Write and read scripts, conduct live and pre‑taped interviews each day.
- Show interest in Canadian music, including Indigenous artists.
- Research, write and produce original story ideas for current affairs, text and social media, including potential video content that engages younger listeners.
- Respond quickly to breaking news events as they unfold and deliver exclusive, engaging material regularly.
- Build relationships with news stakeholders, community leaders and the region.
- Work closely with producers and journalists at CBC North; collaborate to develop stories, plan features and coordinate long‑term coverage.
- Occasionally represent CBC at community events.
- Speak fluently and articulately in both English and Inuktitut.
Required Skills & Experience
- Desire to be behind the microphone, entertaining and informing the Nunavut/Nunavik audience.
- Strong interview, journalistic, writing and presentation skills.
- Audio editing and storytelling experience.
- Ability to adapt to technical demands (desktop editing, daily lineup support, social media posts, field gathering tools).
- Strong understanding of live storytelling techniques and ability to pivot from news to breaking news.
- Excellent editing and proofreading abilities.
- Knowledge of legal and ethical issues in journalism.
- Deep knowledge of or connection to equity‑seeking communities in Nunavut/Nunavik.
- Excellent general knowledge of Nunavut/Nunavik politics, demographics, geography and current issues.
- Proven ability to tell news stories in compelling, innovative ways.
- Capacity to manage large volumes of fast‑moving information.
- Good communication and interpersonal skills; strong team player.
- Valid driver’s license with a clean driving record per CBC/Radio‑Canada insurance requirements.
- Ability to work a variety of shifts, including early starts, late finishes and weekends.
Background Checks
Mandatory criminal record check required. Other background checks may be conducted as needed for the position.
