Role Overview:

This is a hybrid role sitting at the intersection of industrial design and project management within Tag’s retail display team. You will be responsible for the end-to-end design and delivery of bespoke retail fixtures, point-of-sale displays, and in-store brand environments; from initial concept through to manufactured, installed outcome.

You will develop design concepts and 3D models, produce detailed technical drawings and specifications, and own the project management of those designs through supplier quoting, sample review, production, and delivery. You’re equally comfortable sketching a concept in the morning and chasing a fabricator for updated tolerances in the afternoon.

Working closely with clients, account managers, and our supplier network, you will ensure projects are delivered on brand, on time, and within budget. This is a role for someone who takes pride in both design quality and project discipline, and who thrives in a fast-paced retail environment where attention to detail directly impacts the customer experience.

Key Responsibilities:

Design & Development

  • Develop concept designs for retail fixtures, POS displays, gondolas, and bespoke in-store environments in response to client briefs.
  • Produce detailed 3D models and 2D construction drawings using SolidWorks or equivalent CAD software to a fabrication-ready standard.
  • Specify materials, finishes, hardware, lighting, and signage elements appropriate to retail environments and brand requirements.
  • Prepare client-facing design presentations, render imagery, and specification documentation.
  • Iterate designs in response to client feedback, supplier constraints, and value engineering requirements.

Project Management & Delivery

  • Own end-to-end project management of multiple concurrent retail display projects, from briefing through to installation sign-off.
  • Develop and maintain detailed project schedules, tracking design milestones, supplier lead times, production windows, and delivery dates.
  • Manage supplier and manufacturer relationships; issuing briefs, reviewing quotes, approving samples, and overseeing quality control.
  • Prepare and manage project budgets, tracking actuals against estimates and proactively flagging cost variances.
  • Coordinate internal teams (account management, production, logistics) to ensure seamless project handover at each stage.
  • Liaise directly with clients throughout the project lifecycle, providing clear progress updates, managing approvals, and resolving issues efficiently.

Client & Stakeholder Engagement

  • Interpret client briefs and translate brand guidelines into effective retail display concepts.
  • Build trusted relationships with clients, acting as a knowledgeable and reliable point of contact on all design and delivery matters.
  • Navigate retailer compliance requirements (e.g. fixture approval processes, store planograms, safety standards) on behalf of clients.
  • Support new business pitches with design concepts, production estimates, and project methodology.

What we're looking for:

Essential

  • Tertiary qualification in Industrial Design, Product Design, or a related discipline.
  • 3–6 years of experience in retail display design, POS design, shopfitting, or a closely related field.
  • Proficiency in 3D CAD software (SolidWorks strongly preferred).
  • Strong project management skills with demonstrated ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously under deadline pressure.
  • Sound understanding of materials and manufacturing processes relevant to retail display (timber, metal, acrylic, injection moulding, digital print, LED lighting).
  • Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills, with experience managing both client-facing and supplier relationships.
  • Proficiency in Adobe Creative Suite and Microsoft Office (Illustrator, PowerPoint) for producing client-facing design documentation.

Desirable

  • Experience working with major Australian retailers (e.g. Myer, Coles, Woolworths, Chemist Warehouse) and familiarity with their fixture approval processes.
  • Experience managing offshore or domestic manufacturing suppliers and understanding of freight and logistics considerations.
  • Knowledge of retail planogram principles and brand standards in a trade/department store context.
  • Experience with project management or workflow tools (e.g. Monday.com, Asana, or similar).
  • Background in flat-pack, modular, or export-packaged display design.
