Kitchen & Baking Lead Jobs in Lower Sackville, Nova Scotia, Canada at The Pink Piano Cafe & Lounge

Title: Kitchen & Baking Lead

Company: The Pink Piano Cafe & Lounge

Location: Lower Sackville, Nova Scotia, Canada

Company Description

The Pink Piano is a cozy community café serving the HRM with specialty beverages, light fare, and sweet treats. After dark, the space transforms into an eclectic lounge venue hosting acoustic music, trivia and game nights, and private events. We're a creative, community-focused business where quality food, great coffee, and memorable experiences are at the heart of everything we do.

Role Description

We're seeking a unicorn to join our kitchen team and help evolve our offerings as we move into our next exciting phase. This is a new, hands-on role with an opportunity for an experienced baker or cook to take ownership of a small-but-mighty commercial kitchen, get creative, and help shape what comes next.

All members of our kitchen team are responsible for preparing daily baked goods while keeping up with a steady flow of made-to-order light fare (sandwiches, wraps, salads, snacks etc), and maintaining a high bar of quality and cleanliness. In addition, the Kitchen & Baking Lead will:

  • develop new and seasonal baked goods, menu items, weekly specials, grab-and-go offerings, and catering menus
  • improve systems and processes to increase efficiency without sacrificing quality
  • help ensure team members have what they need to execute successfully day-to-day
  • maintain a clean, organized workspace that meets all food, health, and safety standards
  • partner with the management team on special events and community initiatives

Who We Are Looking For

Someone who loves food, takes pride in their craft, and thrives in the chaos of this industry. You can leave ego at the door, and understand that great food & service come from both creativity and disciplined execution.

You work with urgency and care, stay focused during busy service, and use quieter periods productively. You value cleanliness, consistency, and doing things properly the first time.

This role is best suited to someone who enjoys being both a maker and a problem solver; someone who naturally looks for ways to improve how things run while staying grounded in day-to-day service.

Requirements

  • experience in a professional, commercial, or high-volume kitchen
  • strong baking skills and understanding of baking fundamentals
  • comfortable tasting and evaluating food for quality and consistency
  • adaptable, organized, and able to work independently in a fast-paced environment
  • cost-conscious with an understanding of COGS and how food, labour, and time impact the bottom line
  • collaborative, positive, and customer-focused, with strong communication skills
  • ability to work daytime & weekend shifts, stand for extended periods, and perform physically demanding tasks
  • valid Food Handler Certificate & Serve Right training (or able to obtain before starting)

The Fine Print

This is a hands-on role with a high degree of independence and ownership. You’ll have space to contribute ideas and help shape the kitchen, while being trusted to maintain strong standards, manage your time well, and keep day-to-day operations running smoothly.

Hours: ~35 hours per week, with 2 days off in a row

Flexible daytime & weekend availability is required

Compensation: $20/hr + 4% vacation pay + tips
