Position Overview:
The Mechanical Detailer contributes to complex construction initiatives by developing detailed 3D models, coordinating mechanical, electrical, and plumbing systems, and preparing precise fabrication drawings for large mechanical installations. This role promotes accuracy, efficiency, and teamwork across engineering and construction groups by detecting and addressing design discrepancies, organizing project records, and maintaining high standards of quality. Acting as a senior technical resource, the Detailer supports and mentors junior team members while leveraging platforms such as Revit, AutoCAD, and Navisworks to enhance precision and productivity from project start through completion.
Role Responsibilities:
- Deliver high-level support on active construction projects, including receiving, recording, monitoring, expediting, and distributing shop drawings, RFIs, and related project documentation
- Develop detailed fabrication drawings for primary mechanical systems on large commercial or industrial projects
- Produce layouts and detailed drawings for mechanical and equipment rooms
- Organize and maintain documentation systems to ensure information is accessible and clearly understood by project stakeholders
- Minimize time and cost impacts by proactively identifying and resolving model conflicts and coordination issues
- Perform MEP system coordination
- Generate complex 3D BIM models
- Participate in construction meetings and coordination sessions as needed
- Work closely with design and construction teams to reduce field issues resulting from design conflicts
- Provide leadership and direction to junior Detailers
- Assign tasks appropriately and oversee workflow distribution
- Offer mentorship, coaching, and performance input
Required Qualifications:
- High school diploma or GED required
- Completion of a recognized trade apprenticeship program or comparable experience
- Strong written and verbal communication abilities
- Capable of drafting, revising, and proofreading written materials
- Solid understanding of construction trades and craft practices
- Ability to interpret construction drawings and related documentation
- Working knowledge of HVAC systems, sheet metal practices, and field installation procedures
- Strong attention to detail
- Ability to manage and coordinate project tasks
- Experience mentoring and guiding junior Detailers
- Ability to oversee and direct daily workflow
- Proficiency in Navisworks, Revit, and AutoCAD
