Title: Mechanical Engineering Expert – AI Content Specialist

Company: Alignerr

Location: Glasgow, Scotland, United Kingdom

Mechanical Engineering Expert — AI Training Specialist

About The Role

We're partnering with the world's leading AI research labs to build smarter, more technically rigorous AI models — and we need mechanical engineers who can challenge them. As a Mechanical Engineering Expert, you'll push advanced AI systems to their limits across fluid dynamics, thermodynamics, structural mechanics, and more, documenting failures and crafting the gold-standard solutions that make next-generation AI more reliable.

This is a rare opportunity to apply your deep technical knowledge in a high-impact, fully remote freelance role — no prior AI experience needed.

  • Organization: Alignerr
  • Type: Hourly Contract
  • Location: Remote
  • Commitment: 10–40 hours/week

What You'll Do

  • Design Advanced Engineering Problems — Craft complex, domain-spanning challenges across FEA, heat transfer, kinematics, material science, and mechatronics to stress-test AI reasoning and expose weaknesses.
  • Author Ground-Truth Solutions — Develop rigorous, step-by-step technical solutions and benchmark responses that AI models use to calibrate and improve their outputs.
  • Audit AI-Generated Technical Content — Review AI-produced CAD logic, thermodynamic proofs, and material specifications for accuracy, safety compliance, and adherence to engineering standards (e.g., ASME, ISO).
  • Sharpen AI Reasoning — Identify logical errors such as incorrect force distributions, energy conservation violations, or flawed material assumptions, and provide structured feedback that directly improves AI model performance.

Who You Are

  • Advanced Degree — Master's (pursuing or completed) or PhD in Mechanical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, or a closely related field.
  • Deep Domain Knowledge — Strong foundation in solid mechanics, fluid mechanics, thermodynamics, CAD/CAM, or manufacturing processes.
  • Precise Technical Communicator — Able to explain complex physical phenomena and mathematical derivations clearly and concisely in written form.
  • Meticulous Attention to Detail — Comfortable catching errors in unit conversions, mathematical derivations, and physical system constraints.
  • No AI experience required — we'll get you up to speed.

Nice to Have

  • Experience with data annotation, quality evaluation, or technical review workflows
  • Proficiency in engineering software such as SolidWorks, ANSYS, or MATLAB to evaluate AI-generated code or simulation workflows
