Title: Mechanical Engineering Expert – AI Content Specialist

Company: Alignerr

Location: New Zealand

Mechanical Engineering Expert — AI Content Specialist

About The Role

We're partnering with the world's leading AI research labs to build smarter, more technically rigorous AI models — and we need mechanical engineers who know their craft inside and out.

As a Mechanical Engineering Expert, you'll go head-to-head with advanced AI systems, designing complex problems, authoring gold-standard solutions, and exposing the limits of AI reasoning across fluid dynamics, thermodynamics, structural mechanics, and more. Your expertise directly shapes how the next generation of AI understands and applies engineering principles.

This is a rare opportunity to work at the intersection of deep technical knowledge and cutting-edge AI development — on your own schedule, from anywhere in the world.

  • Organization: Alignerr
  • Type: Hourly Contract
  • Location: Remote
  • Commitment: 10–40 hours/week

What You'll Do

  • Design Complex Engineering Problems — Craft advanced, multi-step problems spanning FEA, heat transfer, kinematics, fluid dynamics, material science, and mechatronics to rigorously test AI performance
  • Author Ground-Truth Solutions — Develop precise, step-by-step technical solutions and benchmark responses that AI models learn from and are evaluated against
  • Audit AI-Generated Technical Content — Review AI outputs including CAD logic, thermodynamic proofs, and material specifications for accuracy, safety, and compliance with standards such as ASME and ISO
  • Refine AI Reasoning — Identify logical errors in AI-generated reasoning — such as incorrect force distributions, energy conservation violations, or flawed material assumptions — and provide structured feedback that improves model performance

Who You Are

  • Pursuing or holding a Master's or PhD in Mechanical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, or a closely related field
  • Deep foundational knowledge in one or more core areas: solid mechanics, fluid mechanics, thermodynamics, CAD/CAM, or manufacturing processes
  • Able to communicate complex technical concepts and physical phenomena clearly and precisely in writing
  • Highly detail-oriented when working through mathematical derivations, unit analysis, and physical system constraints
  • Self-directed and comfortable working independently on an asynchronous, flexible schedule
  • No prior AI experience required — your engineering knowledge is what matters

Nice to Have

  • Experience with data annotation, evaluation systems, or technical content review
  • Familiarity with engineering software such as SolidWorks, MATLAB, or ANSYS
  • Exposure to simulation workflows or computational modeling

Why Join Us

  • Work on intellectually stimulating problems that challenge your engineering depth every session
  • Collaborate with a global network of domain experts and AI researchers
  • Gain firsthand exposure to how frontier AI models are trained and evaluated
  • Fully remote and flexible — work on your schedule, at your own pace
  • Freelance autonomy with the backing of an organization working at the frontier of AI development
  • Potential for ongoing work and contract extension
