Job Summary
CBC Yukon seeks an experienced journalist to lead local storytelling on audio, digital, video and social platforms. The producer will program three daily audio shows (Yukon Morning, Midday Cafe, Airplay), assign, edit, and line‑up segments, lead daily team meetings, coordinate story chases, write scripts, conduct interviews, and collaborate with news, digital and video producers across Canada.
Responsibilities
- Program and manage the daily audio‑radio shows.
- Assign, edit, and lineup segments for Yukon Morning, Midday Cafe, and Airplay.
- Lead daily team meetings and coordinate story chases.
- Make editorial decisions on audio treatments and write scripts.
- Conduct interviews and coordinate with reporters across the North and Canada.
- Initiate ideas and projects to engage, serve, and grow audiences.
- Coordinate resources and coverage plans for daily content creation, special projects, series, remote broadcasts, and streaming content.
- Write, vet, and review scripts and questions for the shows.
- Assist hosts in delivery, performance, and show format.
- Build and maintain a database of story ideas from news makers, organizations, and community groups.
- Provide regular feedback and coaching to journalists.
- Work flexible hours and overtime as required.
Qualifications
- Relevant post‑secondary degree or equivalent experience.
- Minimum 5 years of relevant experience, with at least 3 years in broadcasting or a closely related industry.
- Strong understanding of the Yukon’s diverse social, political and cultural landscape.
- Demonstrated experience leading a team or unit.
- Experience gathering sound, voices, and producing audio segments for radio broadcasts.
- Experience producing daily current‑affairs‑driven shows.
- Demonstrated understanding of digital, video, and mobile platforms.
- Superior editorial decision‑making, critical‑thinking and listening skills.
- Thorough knowledge of CBC’s Journalistic Standards and Practices.
- Ability to exercise quick, decisive, and strong editorial judgment.
- Highly developed vetting skills.
- Effective communication and cooperation abilities.
- High interpersonal skill set.
- Organizational skills.
- Excellent editing/production skills in Dalet and other audio editing software.
- Ability to work independently and as a member of a production team.
- Valid driver’s license with a clean driving record.
