Position: News Anchor / Reporter
Job Responsibilities:
The News Anchor serves as the primary presenter of news stories and other content for all platforms in a manner that is clear, engaging, and meaningful to news consumers. This role is a hybrid position that demands a high-level storyteller; in addition to anchoring newscasts, the successful candidate is required to report on major local stories as part of their day-to-day duties.
Multimedia Reporting:
- End-to-End Production: Must be proficient in the full production cycle—
shooting, writing, and editing —to deliver polished, high-impact segments. - Content Volume: Expected to complete 2 to 3 enterprise or big story packages per week for air, in addition to daily anchoring responsibilities.
- Clear Presentation: Presents news stories and other content for all platforms in a clear and concise manner.
- Journalistic Integrity: Ensures all content meets
Nexstar Media Group standards for integrity and production quality.
- Digital Engagement: Writes content for the website and interacts with viewers via social media and other eMedia platforms.
Team Leadership: Works with team members, including coaching and mentoring junior staff.
- Urgent Response: Responds to breaking news and other urgent newsroom situations as required.
Requirements &
Skills:
- Bachelor’s degree in Broadcast Journalism, or a related field, or an equivalent combination of education and work-related experience.
- Fluency in English.
- Excellent communication skills, both oral and written with the ability to ad lib when required.
- Minimum five years’ experience in news reporting or anchoring. (More or less depending on market size.)
- Superior on-air presence.
- Excellent news judgment with an expansive knowledge of local and national current events, history, news makers and issues.
- Experience guiding, directing and motivating others.
- Ability to identify the developmental needs of others and to coach, mentor or otherwise help others to improve their knowledge or skills.
- Proficiency with computers, telephones, copiers, scanners, fax machines and other office equipment.
- Ability to meet deadlines, prioritize assignments and handle multiple tasks simultaneously.
- Ability to effectively listen to fully understand problems and communicate with a team to shape a solution.
- Valid driver’s license with a good driving record.
- Flexibility to work any shift.
- Must include a video link to on-air work as an anchor and reporter with the application.
