Registrar, Creative Arts/Media Jobs in New Orleans, USA at Amistad Research Center
The Amistad Research Center (ARC) is seeking to hire a full-time Registrar to maintain the
records of the fine art collection, document the movement of the collection, and collaborate
with staff to ensure exhibition documentation meets established standards. The Registrar is
a full-time term position with benefits. The Registrar will report to Executive Director, Kathe Hambrick.
About ARC
ARC is committed to collecting, preserving and providing open access to original materials
that reference the social and cultural importance of America’s ethnic and racial history, the
African diaspora, human relations and civil rights. ARC is an independent community-based
archive housed on the campus of Tulane University, located at 6823 St. Charles Avenue in
the Audubon neighborhood of New Orleans’ Uptown district.
Duties and Responsibilities
- Manage documentation and files of all works of art, including the permanent
collection, loans and temporary exhibitions
- Maintain short-term and long-term collections care
- Coordinate shipment of artworks via fine art shipping and crating vendors.
- Maintain inventory of Amistad’s art cage and the African art collection on the 3rd floor.
- Capture all activity of art works in TMS (content management system)
- Work with outside contractors doing specialized work on the collection
- Generate reports regarding collection care, maintenance and shipments
- Create condition reports of incoming and outgoing artwork
- Work collaboratively with all ARC staff
- Support ARC’s grant reporting activities
- Assist with writing education material and promote public engagement with visual arts in the collection
- Perform other related duties as assigned
Qualifications
- Ability to prepare and maintain computer records in TMS
- Knowledge of best practices in shipping and handling of artwork and museum’s
registration methods
- Ability to secure outside contractors (conservators) to conduct specialized work; ability to
manage complex tasks with attention to detail and deadlines
- Ability to manage several concurrent projects in different developmental stages
- Ability to maintain correspondence with artists
- Flexibility of schedule to accommodate intense work periods
- Ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing
Education and Experience
- BA or BFA required with 3-5 years of art collections management experience
preferred OR 3-5 years of comparable work-related experience

the workday is standing)
