RETAIL PLANNING & INVENTORY LEAD
The Retail Planning & Inventory Lead owns retail and e-commerce planning, inventory performance, stock availability, and sales/margin analysis across Boschendal’s retail channels. This role combines hands-on planning with cross-functional leadership across retail, online, suppliers, stores, and operations to ensure the right stock is available at the right time
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
Demand Planning & Performance Monitoring
- Develop and manage financial targets aligned with business objectives
- Analyze and reconcile sales, stock levels, and on-order positions across departments
- Analyze historical data, seasonal trends, and market insights to inform planning decisions to ensure product availability and minimize stockouts
- Monitor operational performance through regular reporting and review forums and continuously improve planning models.
Inventory & Stock Management
- Monitor and maintain optimal stock levels across multiple locations and departments
- Manage stock replenishment from bulk stores and external suppliers
- Investigate and resolve stock discrepancies and variances
- Ensure adherence to FIFO principles and accurate stock valuation processes
- Identify and mitigate slow-moving or excess stock risks.
Sales & Performance Analysis
- Track and report on key performance indicators (KPIs) such as sales, sell-through, margin, waste and Online conversion rates.
- Provide actionable insights and recommendations to improve trading performance.
- Conduct regular reviews of category and Online performance.
- Support pricing strategies and trade promotions.
Supply Chain Operations & Coordination
- Liaise with supply chain, bulk stores, and operational teams to manage stock movement and queries
- Coordinate inter-departmental transfers and supplier deliveries
- Align inventory availability with operational and retail requirements
Systems & Process Improvement
- Drive improvements in stock receiving processes and system usage, including real-time data capture initiatives
- Support implementation and testing of inventory management system enhancements
- Identify inefficiencies and implement process improvements to increase accuracy and efficiency
- Ensure compliance with stock handling and receiving standards across locations
Cross-Functional Collaboration
- Work closely with production, retail, and quality assurance teams to align processes and resolve operational challenges
- Ensure product availability and stock accuracy on e-commerce platform.
- Collaborate with Online team to optimize online assortment and customer experience
Team Leadership & Support
- Lead, support, and mentor the Retail Planner or planning support roles.
- Provide practical planning and commercial guidance to Retail Outlet and Online teams.
- Support recruitment, onboarding, and training for planning, stock, and system-related roles where required.
- Drive adoption of improved planning, stock control, and reporting processes across teams.
Education & Experience:
- Bachelor’s degree in Business, Commerce, Supply Chain, Finance, or related field.
- 5–8 years’ experience in retail planning, inventory management, stock control, supply chain coordination, or a similar hands-on retail operations environment.
- Experience in both brick-and-mortar retail and e-commerce environments is preferred
Skills & Competencies
- Strong practical understanding of stock movement, replenishment, stock accuracy, and store/online availability.
- Strong analytical and numerical skills with advanced Excel (or similar tools).
- Experience with planning/ERP systems
- Solid understanding of retail KPIs and financial planning.
- Ability to translate data into actionable insights.
- Strong stakeholder management and communication skills.
- Commercial mindset with a focus on profitability and customer experience.
- Highly organised with strong attention to detail.
