Job Title: Scene Technician
JOB DUTIES
50% – General Production Assistance
- Practice safe working habits and assist the crew in unloading/loading trucks
- Set up and strike staging and scenic elements
- Arrange lighting and sound equipment
- Perform maintenance functions
- Run production‑related errands
50% – Specialized Production Assistance
- Apply knowledge of electrical theory to hang and circuit lighting plots
- Operate and maintain lighting components (spotlights, dimmers, control systems)
- Program, record, and operate cues on lighting consoles
- Apply knowledge of audio theory to install sound systems
- Operate and maintain sound components (mixers, effect units, microphones)
- Troubleshoot and repair sound systems and plots
- Mix lecture, taped, and small live‑reinforced events
- Apply knowledge of multi‑media theory to install multi‑media systems
- Operate slide projectors, video projectors, VCRs, etc.
- Troubleshoot and repair multi‑media systems and plots
- Operate equipment to the specification of the Event Sponsor or Production Manager
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS
- Two years of college and one year of theater production experience or equivalent education/experience
- Knowledge of most aspects of production
- Ability to maintain lighting components and understand computerized lighting control systems
- Ability to install, troubleshoot, and repair sound systems
- Ability to operate, troubleshoot, and repair multi‑media systems
- Coordinate across technical areas to ensure timely realization of the event
- Work effectively and cooperatively with a team
- Communicate professionally
- Follow oral and written instructions
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
- Intermediate knowledge and experience operating theatrical rigging equipment
- Working knowledge of rigging, electrical, audio, and multi‑media theory and laws
- Ability to mix lectures, taped performances, and small live‑reinforced events
SPECIAL CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT
- Pass a pre‑employment criminal history background check
- Pass the employment misconduct disclosure process
- Work in variable temperature/weather, possible exposure to strong odors, high noise, vibrations, dust, allergens
- Ascend/descend ladders with or without accommodation
- Sustain exposure to dusty, noisy environments and inclement weather as needed
- Move light to moderate objects up to 60 lbs. with or without accommodation
- Work all scheduled hours on‑site
- Work a variable schedule including evenings, weekends, and holidays
- Work overtime including evenings, nights, weekends, and holidays to meet operational needs
- Observe safe work practices as directed
- Work a seasonal, on‑call schedule averaging 8‑14 hours per day during productions, possibly 2‑5 days in a row; schedules may change at discretion of the Quarry Manager
- Maintain professional appearance and conduct
- Complete training within established time frames including UC compliance training
- Comply with the University of California vaccination policy
