Overview
Senior Associate, Communications & Advocacy Jobs in New York City Metropolitan Area at Global Health Strategies (GHS)
Title: Senior Associate, Communications & Advocacy
Company: Global Health Strategies (GHS)
Location: New York City Metropolitan Area
About the Role
Senior Associates are outstanding project managers, writers, and editors — and the engine of our client work. Key to our small teams, Senior Associates drive critical deliverables, run key client interactions, and help develop the next generation of GHS talent. You will work across communications, advocacy, and project management, typically supporting two or more client accounts at once.
We're looking for people who bring entrepreneurial energy and out-of-the-box thinking to complex problems, who are as passionate about the craft of communications as they are about the issues, and who understand that impactful work — especially in a global, fast-moving field — doesn't always fit neatly into a 9-to-5. If that sounds like you, we'd love to be in touch.
Communications
- Producing compelling, strategic communications materials from crisp communications strategies and persuasive pitch decks to compelling narratives around key issues
- Making complex concepts accessible and actionable to a wide audience by creating and polishing key messages, fact sheets, social media posts and creative digital materials
- Thinking like a journalist to identify what makes a strong story and craft pitches and press materials for reporters
- Elevating the voice and expertise of high-level influencers by polishing opinion pieces at key moments, prepping them for interviews and drafting speeches and talking points for events
- Following and tracking trends in media coverage, key announcements, new evidence and high-level conversations that may impact priority global health challenges
Advocacy
- Identifying strategic moments and new champions to influence target stakeholders and amplify our clients’ strategic goals
- Getting partners on the same page through careful coordination, relationship management and message alignment
- Getting partners, influencers and decision-makers in the same place by owning major deliverables within high-level events, including identifying invitees and speakers, and developing agendas or presentations
- Building new coalitions of support for an issue with dedicated outreach, organization and relationship management
- Following and tracking trends in global health policies and funding
Client/Project Management
- Keeping tabs on all the moving pieces of the project, often in a fast-paced environment
- Leading components of client calls and meetings
- Understanding background and nuance across global health and development to provide strategic counsel to clients
- Coaching staff members on writing, client-facing interactions, and time management skills
- Increasing your efficiency, including through use of AI, as you become familiar with the team, work and issue area
- Over-communicating with managers on progress and challenges, bringing solutions to problems before they arise
- Attending events and meetings with senior management on behalf of clients
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree
- 3-6 years of related work experience
- Exceptional writing ability
- Microsoft Office proficiency
Valuable Qualifications
- Comms agency, communications or public relations experience
- Public health, global development or political campaign experience
- Foreign language skills (French or Spanish, in particular)
- International work experience
- Master’s degree in a related field
- Experience with Adobe Suite of creative tools (Illustrator, InDesign, Photoshop) or Canva
