Role Description This is a full-time, on-site ship building role based in Puttalam. The team member will participate in the construction, assembly, and fitting of ship structures, including steel hulls, decks, and related components, following engineering drawings and technical specifications. Daily tasks include reading and interpreting blueprints, measuring and cutting materials, performing fabrication and installation work, and using appropriate tools and machinery safely. The role involves collaborating closely with engineers, supervisors, and other craft professionals to meet project timelines and quality standards, as well as assisting with inspections, testing, and rectification of defects where required. The team member will also be expected to follow all safety protocols, maintain a clean work area, and support continuous improvement in production processes.
Qualifications
- Strong practical skills in ship construction, steel fabrication, welding, or related marine engineering work, preferably in a shipyard or heavy engineering environment.
- Ability to read and interpret technical drawings, blueprints, and fabrication details, with attention to accuracy and quality.
- Familiarity with hand tools, power tools, lifting equipment, and workshop machinery used in shipbuilding, with a strong focus on safe operation.
- Understanding of marine industry safety standards, quality control procedures, and best practices for working in heavy industrial environments.
- Relevant vocational training, apprenticeship, or technical qualification in marine engineering, welding, fabrication, shipbuilding, or a related discipline.
- Good teamwork, communication, and problem-solving skills, with the ability to follow instructions and work under supervision or independently as needed.
- Physical ability to perform manual tasks, work at height or in confined spaces when required, and adapt to varying weather and workshop conditions.
- Previous experience in shipbuilding, ship repair, or dockyard projects is an advantage; experience with Germanischer Lloyd or similar standards is a
