The Position

Under the direction of an assigned supervisor or instructor, assist in the operation of a theater and construction of sets; operate and maintain lights and sound equipment; provide work direction to students and volunteers.

Typical Duties

  • Assist in the design and fabrication of sets, costumes and props.
  • Maintain, clean and repair equipment and tools, lighting and sound equipment and musical instruments.
  • Assist in rigging, lighting, sound effects, stage carpentry and set construction.
  • Inventory, store, receive, issue and check tools, lighting, equipment, costumes, lumber, makeup, hardware and paints.
  • Maintain files and records.
  • Direct theater students and volunteers in the safe operation and use of the theater, tools and equipment.
  • Assist with box office duties, including cash security and ticket printing.
  • Perform duties related to audience hospitality, including ticket taking and concessions.

Qualifications

  • Knowledge of basic principles of stage productions, carpentry, painting, electrical setups, lighting, rigging and sound systems.
  • Ability to operate hand and power tools, communicate effectively and establish and maintain effective working relationships.
  • Experience and training in set construction, theater operations and maintenance of stage equipment and materials.

Conditions of Employment

  • Provide a Certificate of Tuberculosis Exam for initial appointment (renewed every 4 years).
  • Have fingerprints taken by a Live Scan computer at the district’s expense (clearance must be received prior to first day of employment).
  • Present original documents for proof of eligibility to work in the United States.
