About the Role
Unplugged Japan is a boutique luxury travel company specializing in bespoke, narrative-driven journeys across Japan. We are a small, dedicated team based in Kamakura, and we are looking for a Travel Designer to join us in designing and delivering exceptional travel experiences for our international clientele.
This is a hands-on role at the center of our operations. You will work closely with our planning and reservations team to craft custom itineraries and coordinate with our network of hotels, guides, and vendors across Japan. Attention to detail, cultural sensitivity, and a genuine passion for Japan are essential.
This is a remote position, with occasional in-person meetings within Japan. The role also includes opportunities to travel domestically to explore destinations, properties, and experiences firsthand, which is an important part of how we maintain the depth of knowledge our clients expect.
Responsibilities
- Researching and crafting bespoke itineraries tailored to each client's interests, budget, and travel style
- Coordinating reservations and logistics with our network of hotels, ryokan, private guides, and restaurants
- Collaborating with the wider team to ensure seamless itinerary execution
- Maintaining accurate records and itinerary documentation using our planning and delivery tools
Qualifications
- Fluency in both English and Japanese, written and spoken
- A university degree or equivalent experience
- Prior experience in the travel industry is an advantage, though not required for the right candidate
- Proficiency in Google Workspace (Docs, Sheets)
- Familiarity with luxury travel, Japanese culture, and the hospitality industry
- Exceptional organizational skills and meticulous attention to detail
- A collaborative, adaptable working style suited to a small team environment
- Genuine curiosity about Japan and a desire to share that enthusiasm with travelers
