Position Purpose

This role is pivotal in ensuring the realisation of optimal capital and commercial outcomes associated with the New & Renewal Store Program and store blueprints across the Group. It carries the responsibility of delivering projects associated with the cost out program run within Woolworths 360 working closely with the Group Procurement team

This role is required to navigate a complex matrix of partnerships involving multiple stakeholders within the Woolworths Group. The primary objective is to collaboratively address challenges and drive improvements in the overall Value performance across diverse areas.

Furthermore, this position involves a critical focus on risk management. It involves identifying potential risks and developing robust mitigation strategies to counter both commercial and business performance risks. This proactive approach ensures resilience against potential setbacks while fostering sustained performance excellence.

Key Responsibilities Summary:

Collaborate within the Value Engineering team to address strategic projects, encompassing a wider spectrum across various Brands within Woolworths. Utilise proficient data analysis and strategic problem-solving competencies to discover novel commercial prospects. Craft and ascertain the most effective Value model, ensuring an equilibrium between customer and team contentment, safety protocols, and profitability.

Key Responsibilities

Diverse stakeholder relationship and engagement

  • Partner with internal and external stakeholders to develop a commercial assessment
  • Identify key performance criteria, objectives and measures of success.
  • Liaise with key stakeholders keeping informed of progress through the process
  • Create rapport with commercial, operations, safety, facilities management, design and equipment teams to ensure smooth execution of initiatives to agreed timelines
  • Be bold and innovative, challenging category status quo and exploring global trends for local application
  • Regular communication established with key stakeholders
  • Initiate or participate in meetings with all key stakeholders to review initiative

Manage commercial projects

  • Value Engineer commercial assessments into cost segmented to customer formats
  • Assess ideas for prioritisation and benefit to store environment, team and customer
  • Work with partners across the group to commercialise projects so they are financially sustainable while achieving key customer and team objectives
  • Provide direction and support to internal and external key stakeholders
  • Work with delivery teams to meet project requirements, timelines and manage risk
  • Engage with Capacity Planning for stores
  • Manage individual project impacts from changes to Design / Program / Procurement and assess impact on overall return – and recommended remedial plans (PIR)
  • Projects completed on time as advised or revised
  • Key milestones are achieved in line with timeline
  • Improve understanding of tasks or knowledge of key stakeholders for future projects
  • Project changes documented and signed off
  • Deliver Key Results as agreed and documented quarterly
  • Accurate reporting on Projected (Approved) benefit – then reconciled with Realised (Installed) benefit.

Value Engineering

  • Apply specialist knowledge and technical experience to deliver maximum Value, without impacting key Functionality or diminishing the Brand
  • Implement Value Engineering practices, ensuring base scope is optimised; minimise Capital and (ongoing) OpEx costs
  • Define Value Engineering opportunities that deliver positive commercial outcomes
  • Define approach, reporting and insights platform to support with estimating, benchmarking and recommending guidance for all kit and build changes
  • Demonstrate a direct and proactive subject matter expert contribution to Value Engineering goals and targets
  • Facilitate and deliver in alignment with home and deliver, ways of working
  • Drive Value Engineering outcomes that enable, inspire, and focus the partner teams
  • Deliver Value Engineering improvements to key initiatives
  • Collate and respond to feedback from stakeholders on Value Engineering initiatives, emerging priorities and queries

Skills & Experience

  • 5 years+ experience within a construction / architectural design-driven industry, with a customer / analytical mindset
  • Loves solving problems and understanding problem statements
  • Financial analysis skills that drive compelling and actionable insights
  • Good judgement, commercial awareness and forward-thinking ability
  • Excellent attention to detail whilst remaining outcomes focussed
  • The ability to build strong relationships founded on trust and thought leadership In – with the ability to then influence an outcome and deliver clear value
  • Experience working with fast paced, dynamic leaders in a rapidly evolving business environment
  • Good story telling ability, making the complex simple.
  • Ability to learn and adjust to new concepts, ways of working and technology
  • Experience with Agile working methodology preferred
