PR & Events Manager Jobs in Auckland, Auckland, New Zealand at Special PR
Title: PR & Events Manager
Company: Special PR
Location: Auckland, Auckland, New Zealand
Do You Make A Difference?
Special PR’s sole purpose, and the question that we ask ourselves at every turn is, “Will it make a
difference?” – to brands, to culture, to consumers, and to careers. Your career.
Special’s ambition is to be renowned as NZ’s most innovative, creative and effective design and
communications agency. We believe in a culture of unconstrained creativity and look to you to
contribute and invest in this culture. We believe it is an organic and precious thing, that every
person who joins Special plays a fundamental part in developing it.
As a PR & Events Manager you are the engine room behind our activations and the powerhouse
who helps bring our work to life. You allow us to realise this purpose by delivering exceptional
brand experiences, supporting event strategy and execution, and driving earned media that keeps
our clients talked about.
You will be the voice of the agency and our clients – communicating with external media, partners,
and suppliers; crafting our relevance and news stories; hunting for new business; growing revenue
for the agency; and providing incredible account service that helps us make a difference.
The agency hums when our ideas, work and creative concepts are seen and heard in popular
culture – and people take notice.
Your impact on the work is far greater than even you realise. So always remember that even the
smallest of tasks can make a big difference.
HOW You Make A Difference:
This role is the heartbeat of our PR and Activation work, sitting at the intersection of events and
earned media, with a strong lean into the world of experiences. You’ll spend most of your time making
things happen by coordinating events and activations from concept to close, managing the moving
parts and ensuring our work lands with impact.
You’ll also have strong PR foundations, knowing how to craft and distribute stories to media and
influencers that put our clients in the spotlight.
Specifically:
- Event Activation and Delivery: You know how to take a brief and turn it into a brilliant
experience. You can manage logistics, coordinate suppliers, wrangle timelines and budgets
and keep everything moving without dropping the ball. You are calm under pressure and
thrive in the fast-paced buzz of event day.
- Project Management: You are highly organised and detail oriented. You keep project plans
up to date, flag risks early and communicate clearly with your team and clients. You
understand that great events don’t happen by chance, they happen because everything is
kept on track.
- On-Site Execution: You’re happy to roll up your sleeves, On-site, you’re the person who
makes sure everything runs smoothly – briefing and managing brand ambassadors and
suppliers and solving any problems that arise quickly.
- Creative Thinking: You proactively bring good ideas to the table and can support the team to
take a client brief and build event concepts and activations that feel fresh, on-brand and
culturally relevant. You know what makes people stop, pay attention and engage.
- Media Relations: You have a foundational understanding of what makes a good story. You
can identify an appealing hook, draft a press release and generate coverage for our clients.
- Copywriting: You’re a confident and compelling writer. Whether it’s a runsheet, a client
email, a pitch or a post campaign analysis, you’re writing is clear and on brand.
- News value: You know what makes a good story – and understand how any ideas we
present with will resonate with traditional news media. Do our campaigns have good news
appeal? How does this sit in popular culture?
- Copywriting: Know how to craft a story into a press release, a social post, or a news blog.
- Networking: You are the lynchpin between Special PR and the wider world. You are across
our network of vendors, venues and production partners. You build good relationships with
people we rely on and understand how to get the best out of them. You also know the media,
the opportunities and the risks.
- Client Engagement: you gain the trust, confidence, and respect of clients through your ability
to deliver on commitments and solve problems. You gain their adoration through your
relationship building skills and general awesomeness.
- Presentation skills: You find a role for yourself in every meeting. You’re confident to speak
up in meetings when appropriate. You’re competent at presenting your part when required.
You’re calm and clear and well prepared.
- Teamwork: You help create a highly organised environment to support the PR team. You
always look for ways to add value to the team.
- Swim in the deep end: We are at our best when everyone does whatever they need to, to
get the job done, as such, you will be thrown in the deep end often. The deep end is where
you grow. It’s where you prove to yourself that you’ve got what it takes. We want you to
embrace a Growth Mindset, look for opportunities to shine, back yourself and put your hand
up if you’re drowning.
- You: You take control of your career development. You communicate with the Head of Brand
Experience to make plans for desired training and promotions. You do what you need to, to
make sure you do an excellent job but speak up early when you need help or feel like your life
is becoming unbalanced (mentally, emotionally, physically or socially)
The above is not everything that you’ll be required to do; we expect that you will seek out ways to step
outside of these things to further your career, improve our ways of working, make Special PR a better place to work and help us make work that makes a difference.
