Context
The Regional Office for Latin America and the Caribbean (ROLAC) is strengthening its strategic communications to amplify the visibility and impact of UN initiatives across the region. As part of this effort, the office is seeking the support of a Online Volunteer (OV) to contribute to the development and refinement of editorial content that highlights the work of UN entities, partners, and volunteers in the region. The OV will work closely with the ROLAC Communications Specialist and under the guidance of the regional communications team to support the creation, editing, and adaptation of content for digital platforms, including the UNV website and social media. This includes drafting articles, success stories, and human-interest pieces that reflect the values of volunteerism and the contributions of UN Volunteers to sustainable development. The OV’s contributions will be particularly valuable in the context of ongoing initiatives such as the IVD, IVY and Volunteers for Events Initiatives, where editorial content plays a key role in showcasing the engagement of volunteers and the transformative impact of their work. The OV may also support content related to thematic areas such, gender equality, and youth empowerment, ensuring alignment with UNV’s editorial standards and strategic messaging. This assignment offers a unique opportunity to gain experience in UN communications, contribute to meaningful storytelling, and collaborate with a dynamic regional team committed to promoting volunteerism as a powerful force for change.

The Online Volunteer will support the ROLAC Communications team by drafting, editing, and proofreading editorial content for digital platforms, including articles, success stories, and social media copy. The content will highlight the impact of UN Volunteers and key regional initiatives while aligning with UNV’s strategic messaging and editorial standards. Assignment requirements
Required Experience
- Writing Skills: Strong writing skills with the ability to craft compelling, first-person narratives. – Cultural Awareness: Deep understanding of the cultural, social, and political context of Latin America and the Caribbean. – Communication Skills: Excellent verbal and written communication skills in English and Spanish. – Experience in Storytelling: Previous experience in storytelling, journalism, or content creation is an asset.
